Grades 7 – 8
In the Middle School grades, application of core academic areas for understanding and generalization of knowledge is the focus. The students are developing a deeper understanding of the connections between academic knowledge and its relevance to their future goals, which may include pre-vocational skills if appropriate for the student. Community experiences occur once a month for application of skills outside of the school setting. Enhanced emphasize on the development of Executive functioning skills occurs for students to take more ownership of their actions and its effects on others. Self-monitoring of their own learning and behavior is developed through a variety of approaches such as the Zones of Regulation.
